Day 15 -Gairloch to Ullapool

A sunny start from Gairloch with the promise of good weather for the day. A quick call in on Jill and Rick, friends who run sea wildlife and glass bottom boat trips from Gairloch harbour.
On our way round Loch Ewe, we met our friend,  Eric Malcolm from Aberdeen, who stayed at our house a few years ago as he cycled LeJog. He was on his way home from Ullapool and came to say hello. Great to see you Eric.
On our way now with long climbs which gave us spectacular views of the mountains, prompting a verse or two of 'All things bright and beautiful' as we cycled along - David just puts up with it!
We arrived in Ullapool this evening to the sight of a Hebridean ferry arriving. A super day. 58 miles, 12.5 mph ave, 45 mph max,1030 miles total.

  1. Hi David, Been following your blog with interest-looks like you are having a great trip, and so far the Scottish weather has been kind to you! Enjoy the next few days-you are in a stunning part of the country( I am biased..). Next time, add in the Outer Hebrides to your route-you won't be disappointed! Louise Cunningham(one of the 2 girls you guided on or LeJog trip in June-just in case you have forgotten...)

  2. David and Carole have just climbed Le Alp de Huez, one of the steepest peaks in the Alps on their tandem.

"Phew, that was a tough climb" said Carole, leaning over, breathing hard. "That climb was so hard, and we were going so slow, I thought we were never going to make it."

"Yeah, good thing I kept the brakes on," said David, "or we'd have slid all the way back down!"

I bet you can nearly smell the pie shop now!!!! xxxx
