We stayed the night at Brookfield House; not the one from the Archers, but in Shap Village. We voted it best B and B so far, we haven't had a bad one but Brookfield combined all we needed after a very wet trip up the Shap climb. Margaret made us very welcome, after getting all our wet gear off us for drying downstairs; and I mean All.
This morning down to Penrith quite early. Along the A6 north then off on back lanes to Carlisle, 30 miles without a cafe stop, a record so far on the trip. Made up for it in an Italian at happy afternoon prices, very good cycling fuel hit the spot.
We followed route 7 to Gretna and then Gretna Green. A friendly piper took photo's and posed for his picture. Staying on 7 for Locharbriggs we arrived at 17:20 to an empty house, quickly sorted by Gordan we could settle in then leave for more fuel; sorry, food.
73.5 miles Avg 13.5 mph Max 33 mph Total Mileage 602
hope its is going well, I got married in Gretna green, great photos. keep it up. xx
